These activities can help children integrate their faith with everyday experience and work towards a strong record of leadership in a social and educational context.
Altar server training
At different times throughout the year, Altar server training is provided for children from Good Samaritan Parish and St John the Baptist Parish.
All children from our two parishes that are in Year 2 or above are welcome to come along and learn how to participate in our faith community in this meaningful and enjoyable way.
For more information, please email Marie-Louise.
Our parish family led mass also referred to as “Children Led Mass” is a Parish initiative providing families with the opportunity to nurture the spirituality of your child through active participation in Sunday Mass.
At these Masses, children actively participate in the Eucharistic celebration by welcoming parishioners, reading the Liturgy of the Word and Prayers of the Faithful, and presenting the gifts in the Offertory procession.
St Columba’s Family Mass
The Family Mass team at St Columba’s are currently seeking volunteers to:
- Welcome: organise the children in welcoming parishioners to Mass on the day
- Entrance procession: organise the children’s procession into Mass
- Readers: organising the celebration of the Liturgy of the Word with children reading on the day
- Offertory Procession: organising the gifts and instructing the children in what to do
- Singers: organising the children
If your child would like to be involved, please email Marie-Louise and include your child’s full name and class, and preferred roles (first and second preference).
Family Mass dates for 2022 please see the Events calendar.
The first half of the Mass is the Liturgy of the Word where we listen to readings from the Bible, followed by the Homily where the priest may interpret and relate the readings to Christian life. However, we all recognise that both of these are generally aimed towards the majority of the congregation which is essentially adult.
Children’s Liturgy is the Liturgy of the Word for Children. We cover the Gospel of the day at a level the children can understand and enjoy.
Children’s Liturgy dates for 2022, please see thee Events calendar.
