First Communion

Eucharist is unique among the sacraments as it is at the heart of our faith. For Catholics, the Eucharist, or Mass, is the most powerful way we encounter the real presence of Jesus Christ.

“Jesus said to them, ‘Amen Amen,’ I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day. For my flesh is true food and my blood is true drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him.”

John 6:53-56

“the bread and wine of the Eucharist before the holy invocation of the adorable Trinity were simple bread and wine, but the invocation having been made the bread because the body of Christ and the wine the blood of Christ.”

— St. Cyril of Jerusalem (c 350)

The Source and Summit of Christian Life:

According to the Catechism of Catholic Church, “The Eucharist is the source and summit of the Christian life.” All the other sacraments and all ministries in the Church are bound up with the Eucharist and are oriented towards it. This is because in the Eucharist is the whole of the spiritual good of the church as the eucharist is Christ himself. (CCC1324).

The Eucharist is:
– the source and summit of grace
– the cause of our Communion with the Church
– the Culmination of God’s caring actions in the world
– the anticipation in the heavenly liturgy.

Preparing your child for First Communion

It is the duty of parents and the parish to offer children prayerful and practical help to celebrate the sacraments with proper devotion and to form them in the rituals of receiving the sacraments. Parishes work with families to help parents prepare their children to grow in their friendship with Jesus and their connection to the Church community.

If you wish to register your child in our Eucharist programme, visit Sacramental Program for dates, times and locations of Parent Information Sessions and Preparation.

Also in Sacramental Program we provide opening and closing dates for online registration.
