When a Christian dies, the community gathers for a funeral. They say farewell to the person who has died and entrust that person to God’s loving care. They praise and thank God for the gift of a life which has been returned to its Creator. They remember with joy and pain what that person has meant to them.

St. Columba’s Columbarium

A Columbarium is a structure built in a sacred space for reverential and public storage of the Urns holding the cremains of the dead.

In the Catholic Church the cremated remains of the deceased person should be respected and handled with due decorum as we do to the human body, and in a worthy vessel. The rite of Commital is celebrated at the cemetery or Columbarium as soon as possible following the funeral liturgy.
