The Spiritual Exercises are based on the spiritual programme designed by St. Ignatius of Loyola and taught through the Jesuit ministry. There can be many different ways of doing them, eg. 30 days, this would call for 30 days away from home, either a retreat centre or a place where one can stay away from familiar distractions. A 30 week retreat in daily life, means staying at home and committing to a period of prayer each day on a given piece of Scripture, catching up with a guide 1 hour per week to have Spiritual Conversation and get the next week’s Scripture readings. 8 day retreat can be in a similar location as the 30 day retreat or at home at a gentler pace, meeting with a guide daily. Individual companioning would be meeting with a guide on a monthly basis.

The 1st Spiritual Exercise is a four week “in home” retreat. This involves 5 meetings with certain spiritual exercises during the intervening weeks. A guide book and individual guidance is available.

Cecilia is a lay director and leader of the programmes.
